The piece
The stationery counter, the week before Christmas: a round ribbon tin, a spool of black ink, and the household cat sitting on it as if the letters were her idea. Typewriter Ribbon is a 3-inch acrylic circle ornament printed with that tin lid — red rim, cream ground, gold stars, the words One Spool · Black Ink. It hangs on the tree beside the old glass balls and does not look new. Give it to the person who still writes thank-you notes. Typed with love, by the cat of the house.
